Who We Are:

About Us

Evolve is a competency-based pathway of choice for students who want to do high school differently to reach their goals for college, career, and beyond. We ask students to apply to our pathway, as we want to be sure we are the best fit for them and they are the best fit for us! All of our classes are project-based classes, and we focus on high-interest topics and individualized instruction to meet the needs of all learners.

Evolve Academy is on the Move

As of September 2026, Evolve Academy is officially its own school and is no longer a program within B.M.C. Durfee High School.

With this exciting transition, Evolve Academy has moved into its own dedicated school building, located at 290 Rock Street.

We look forward to welcoming students, families, and staff to our new home as we continue to provide a supportive learning environment focused on student success.

Evolve Academy Data to Celebrate!

Our attendance rose from 50 percent in 2019 to 85 percent in 2026, and our graduation rate increased from 60 percent in 2020 to 84 percent in 2025. This year, we have had our largest graduating class with 49 graduates! Congratulations, Class of 2026!

Fall River Public Schools Interim Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Smith is pleased to announce that Dr. Janet Schweizer has been appointed principal of Evolve Academy, which will begin the 2026–2027 school year as a new, standalone high school in the district.

Evolve has successfully operated as a pathway within B.M.C. Durfee High School, providing a competency- and project-based approach for students who benefit from a different high school experience. In April, the Fall River School Committee voted to establish Evolve as its own high school, marking an exciting next chapter for the growing program.

One of the enrichments offered in the Durfee Summer Enrichment Program is Environmental Science! Students in these classes are getting hands-on experience exploring the connections between plants, animals, and the environment. From growing their own vegetables in the greenhouse and under specialized grow lights to learning about fish and caring for classroom aquariums, students are discovering how ecosystems work while developing valuable science skills.
